相惊伯有xiāng jīng Bó yǒufrighten one another about Boyou [a senior official in the state of Zheng in the Spring and Autumn Period whose ghost haunted] -raise false alarms
❍ 郑人相惊以伯有，曰，“伯有至矣”则皆走，不知所往。(《左传·昭七年》) The people of Zheng frightened one another about Boyou,saying，“Boyou is here!” on which they would all run off,not knowing where they were going to. 相惊伯有xiānɡ jīnɡ bó yǒu伯有：指春秋时期郑国的良霄，传说伯有死后变成了厉鬼，要来报仇。人们一听到伯有来了就惶恐逃避。现比喻自相惊扰。frighten oneself without reason, raise false alarms out of nothing |
