烂（爛）lànⅠ ❶ （物质组织破坏或水分增加后松软） mashed; mushy; sodden; pappy: 熟而不 ～ thoroughly cooked but not mushy; ～ 泥巴 mud; mire; 豆子煮 ～ 了。 The beans are now soft enough to eat. 牛肉烧得很 ～。 The beef is very tender.
❷ （腐烂） rotten; decayed: ～ 水果 spoiled fruits; ～ 肉 rotten meat
❸ (破碎； 破烂) torn to pieces; worn-out: ～ 纸 pieces of torn paper; ～ 玻璃 broken glass; 破衣 ～ 衫 tattered [ragged] clothes; 衣服穿 ～ 了。 The clothes are worn-out.
❹ （头绪乱） messy: 一本 ～ 账 a messy account Ⅱ （腐烂） rot; fester; decay: 树根 ～ 了。 The root of the tree rotted away. 伤口 ～ 了。 The wound festered. 这样的阴雨天要防止 ～ 秧。 In such wet weather we must prevent the seedling from rotting.
