智者千虑,必有一失千虑一失zhì zhě qiān lǜ , bì yǒu yī shī

among the schemes of the wisest man one in a thousand will end in error; even a wise man sometimes makes a mistake; even Homer sometimes nods; even the wise are not always free from error;no man is wise at all times;the best man stumbles
❍ 广武君曰: “臣闻~; 愚者千虑,必有一得。故曰: ‘狂夫之言,圣人择焉。’ ……” (《史记·淮阴侯列传》) “They say,” answered the lord of Guangwu: “That among the schemes of the wisest man one in a thousand will end in error,while among those of the greatest fool one in a thousand will succeed. Therefore it is said that a sage will find something to choose even from the words of a madman…”/但 “~”,这大约也无伤于先生的“日月之明”的。(鲁迅《且介亭杂文二集》146) But“once in a blue moon a wise man must make a mistake,” so this should not sully his illustrious name.
